The Law Offices of Patel and Soltis would like to announce the formation of the Aaron Swartz Progressive Change Scholarship. Each year we plan to award at least $1,000 to the top essay related to law and activism. This award is open to all part-time and full-time law students. Based on submissions we will award up to three awards.
This scholarship was established as a memorial to Aaron Schwartz and his dedication to activism and the boundaries he pushed. Amount for 2016-2017 school year – $1,000 per award up to 3 awards will be made
§ Must be attending an ABA-approved law school for the 2016-2017 school year at least part time.
§ Candidates must submit a 750 to 2000 word essay, not including endnotes upon any subject related to Activism and the Law. Examples would include Immigration reform, Foreclosure Defense, Providing legal resources through technology.
§ All entries will be open for comment on the staging-focusedlaw.kinsta.cloud website.
§ A current resume with contact information must be submitted with each submission.
§ Up to three entries on different topics will be accepted

We have received multiple questions about this scholarship so to keep things level for all entrants we are answering them here.
Q. What is a recommended topic?
A. We recommend a topic related to Aaron Swartz Hacktivism or one of our firm’s core practice areas: Foreclosure Defense, Bankruptcy, or Immigration. (Last year’s winners wrote about immigration and New Jersey Foreclosure Defense.) If you can tie in Probate and/or Real Estate we would be amazed.
Q. What is an example of a winning essay?
A. Paulina Baginska a Second Year law student of Brooklyn Law School won for her essay on Immigration Policy. Dhara Patel a First Year law student of Rutgers Law School for her essay on Foreclosures detrimental effect on society.
Q. Who can enter?
A. Anyone attending an ABA-approved law school for the 2016-2017 school year at least part time.
